MQL

Teams consist of 4 players. Matches consist of 8 rounds each of 8 questions and should ideally be officiated by a question master (QM), score keeper (SK) and a time keeper (TK).

If the match is not taking place as part of a set Home and Away fixtures, the team winning the toss of a coin decides whether to go first or second. For league fixtures, the away team decides whether to go first or second.

The questions for each round are numbered 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B, 4A, 4B. Question 1A goes to the P1 on the team going first, 1B to P1 on the team going second and so on.

The may attempt an answer their question within 10 seconds for 2 points or pass it to a team mate who has 5 seconds to answer the question for 1 point. A failure to answer a question or an incorrect answer gives a member of the opposition an opportunity to answer correctly in 5 seconds for 1 point.

There is no conferring as such. Where a player decides not to answer their question, the team captain will normally decide which other member of the team is to answer by assessing the hand signals made by the players on the team (including the captain).

The opposition will also use hand signals to decide who is to answer the question in the event of it being passed over.

After 4 rounds, the order of answering changes so the team who began round 1 going first begin round 5 going second. This is done by switching each team's questions from A to B or from B to A depending on which questions they started with.
